Project Summary

In 2019 Broomfield Completed the Bicycle and Pedestrian Assessment.  This Assessment gathered existing conditions data and collected your feedback to create an inventory of gaps and needs in Broomfield's bicycle and pedestrian network.  The Assessment is a frequent used tool to identify, design, and construct bicycle and pedestrian projects in the community.  It has been an invaluable tool in enhancing the travel options available to the public and in making connections throughout the community and beyond.

Public Engagement Summary

Your input was collected through a variety of means including an interactive map, and through a Q&A tool and a Forum tool on this webpage.  In addition to the digital engagement methods, Broomfield staff collected your feedback at a number of in person events throughout the community.  Your engagement was critical to informing the Bicycle and Pedestrian Assessment projects lists and priorities.

    Industrial Lane

We heard your concerns regarding pedestrian and bike access to Industrial Lane! A bike lane is proposed along both sides of Industrial Lane from the intersection of Midway Boulevard and East FlatIron Crossing Drive to the trail access to the East Park Underpass at US 36. This project will create a safe bike and pedestrian access along Industrial Lane, increase accessibility for all pedestrians and bikers to the US 36 Bikeway and Pedestrian Bridge, and provide safe and direct access from the developing 96th Street neighborhood to existing neighborhoods and commercial areas in Broomfield.

    Nickel Street

The crossing of Midway Boulevard and Nickel Street was a hotspot for public complaints. In response to your feedback, there will now be a sidewalk and bike lanes installed at this intersection, the crossing of US 287, and the railroad crossing to Industrial Lane in order to increase safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

    West Midway Boulevard Pedestrian Bridge

Many pedestrians and cyclists expressed a desire for a safe crossing from the US 36 Bikeway over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks and on to West Midway Boulevard. In response to this need, a pedestrian and cycling bridge will be constructed over the tracks in order to provide a safe connection between Midway and the US 36 Bikeway.

    96th Street Underpass

The underpass at 96th Street was built in the 1990's and was determined to be in disrepair from water damage and leakage. Improvements to this underpass will include a concrete floor, lighting, and drainage improvements. The project will provide safe pedestrian and bike connections beneath 96th Street and will provide connectivity for the Parkway Circle neighborhood. This underpass may also ultimately connect into a future alternative route on the north side of US 36.
