Outreach Complete and Next Steps
The outreach period for proposed striping changes to West 6th Avenue from Kohl Street to US 287, which included parking removal, is complete. Given overall negative feedback, the striping changes will not be implemented for this portion of West 6th Avenue. Many residents shared specific concerns regarding the loss of parking and a fair number expressed interest in other types of speed mitigation, such as speed cushions or police enforcement.
A summary of the plan for this year is as follows:
- 6th Avenue: Kohl Street to US 287: No striping changes will be made. Staff will propose speed cushions based on survey feedback and reengage with residents to determine feasible locations. Additionally, sharrows and a narrower travel lane could be striped without impacting parking at some point in the future.
- 6th Avenue: Kohl Street to Daphne Street: Striping will be implemented without parking removal. This will add a bike lane eastbound and a sharrow westbound.
