The City and County of Broomfield (CCOB) is seeking to update the playgrounds in Northmoor Park and at Broomfield County Commons Yellow Pod. CCOB aims to provide the community with playgrounds that are engaging and safe environments for children to play and explore, while also promoting physical activity and imaginative play.

The southernmost existing playground at Northmoor Park is located near the intersection of E 13th Avenue and Cedar Street, directly west of the Bal Swan Children’s Center. The current playground includes equipment for 2 to 5-year olds as well as 5 to 12-year olds, an ADA accessible climbing structure, swings, a rope climbing structure, sensory play area, and several additional free-standing pieces of play equipment and was installed in 2003.

The project in this location consists of a partial removal and replacement including:

  • Removal and replacement of the top layer of the poured-in-place surface under the ADA accessible climbing structure,

  • Removal of retaining wall and sand table in the sensory play area,

  • Removal and relocation of seating around the playground,

  • Removal of the poured-in-place and all freestanding play equipment at the north end of the playground to be replaced with engineered wood fiber,

  • Removal and disposal of existing climbing structure,

  • Painting of the swing set and replacement of any elements that need replacement,

  • Design and installation of a new sensory play area (possibly in the same location, possibly in a different location), and

  • Design and installation of new play equipment to replace what has been removed.


Broomfield County Commons Playground (Yellow Pod)

The Broomfield County Commons Playground is located due east of the intersection of E 14th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard within the Broomfield County Commons Complex. The existing playground consists of structures to accommodate 2 to 5-year olds and was installed in 2003.


Broomfield County Commons Yellow Pod Playground

The project in this location consists of a full removal and replacement including:

  • Removal and disposal of existing play structures,

  • Removal, disposal and replacement of the existing surfacing,

  • Removal of the red bench and replace with a bench to match the existing memorial bench onsite,

  • Removal of bike rack on the southwest side of the playground and relocate recycling bin to be adjacent to trash can,

  • Provide and install a new two to five year old and five to 12-year old play structure (and activities), and

  • Incorporate shade or a roof into the structure to provide a semi-shaded play area.
