Building utilizing neutral color schemes and faux grain silo building

Staff Analysis

Project Description: The proposal includes the development of a new building as part of the Discovery Church master plan to serve as the children and youth ministry building. The building, known as ‘the silo’, is located adjacent to the existing sanctuary building, known as ‘the barn’. The new building was designed to reflect and complement the existing sanctuary building and the rural characteristics of the surrounding area to the north and west. The site is located within the Transitional Overlay Area District (TOAD) of the Broomfield Municipal Code (BMC), and is subject to the site design and requirements established within the TOAD.

The new children and youth ministry building is located directly west of the existing Discovery Church sanctuary building. The buildings front along W. 144th Avenue with parking located behind the buildings to the north. The orientation of the existing and proposed buildings create a central gathering area for the church where a green space is identified on the plans. A pedestrian walkway is located between the buildings and extends down to the public sidewalk located along W. 144th Avenue.

Additional on-site parking is provided with the proposal to expand the existing parking lot for the church. The additional paved on-site parking will free up the area east of the existing church that was used as a gravel overflow parking lot for the church.

Conformance with the Zoning and Compatibility with Surrounding Uses: The proposed use is consistent with the existing zoning and comprehensive plan land use designation. The proposed addition to church facilities requires a Use by Special Review.
