Project Outcome

Of the 230 responses, approximately 70% indicated their preference was removal of the sign rather than repair/rebuilding of the current sign. The survey also indicated that a slight majority (50.4%) of those taking the survey would like to see alternative signage considered in the future. Based on these results, the sign was removed and additional outreach will occur in the future about potential design and replacement for the neighborhood signage. This work will need to be budgeted in the future and will involve additional neighborhood outreach and involvement as new signs are considered.

Project Overview

In 2002, the Broomfield City Council adopted the Broomfield Heights Neighborhood Plan following an extensive two-year public outreach effort with neighborhood residents and businesses. The purpose of these efforts was to work collaboratively to preserve and enhance the character inherent in Broomfield's oldest residential subdivision.

One action item was the installation of entry signage and a landscaped median at East 1st Avenue and Main Street (see Project Location map). The project was later installed as a City capital improvement project. Over the years, since the sign's installation, there have been mixed reviews expressed on the desirability of the sign in this location.

This sign has been damaged multiple times by vehicles, with the most recent occurrence happening just a couple of months ago. Broomfield is now exploring whether to rebuild or repair the sign or to remove it altogether. Broomfield is requesting input from the neighborhood on the preferred course of action.
