Broomfield’s Comprehensive Plan makes environmental stewardship a focal point of Broomfield’s long-term social, economic and environmental health. Broomfield has programs in place that make our community more sustainable each day. Watch this video for a brief overview of current programs.

  • How do you picture the future of environmental stewardship in our community?
  • What are your ideas for simple or major projects that will create a more sustainable future for our community?
  • How can Broomfield and our citizens use resources more efficiently and effectively?
  • What reuse and recycling programs would you like to see?
  • What efforts would make your community more livable, healthy, and desirable?

Broomfield continues to embark on the journey to expand environmental stewardship efforts to create a community that meets our residents goals for energy, water conservation, local food and agriculture, business sustainability, and multi-modal transportation. We invite you to build this environmental stewardship vision with us! Please visit the new Waste Zero and Broomfield Sustainability web pages.

In 2020, the Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (ACES) recommended, and City Council passed, Zero Waste and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Resolutions. (Additionally, see the list of ACES' accomplishments.) Please share your visions and priorities so, together, we can create a plan to guide the development of environmental stewardship for the next decade. A plan, not just for the Broomfield, but for the entire community that will enhance our environmental stewardship culture and increase our position as a community that leads the way to a more sustainable future.

    On February 11, 2020, City Council approved the change of term for the task force, and create an ongoing committee. The Council also approved the request to change the name of the committee to the Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability.

    The Council also approved a Zero Waste Resolution, which directs the Committee to develop a Zero Waste Plan for Broomfield this year.
