UPDATED 7/22: Construction Truck Route
Share UPDATED 7/22: Construction Truck Route on Facebook Share UPDATED 7/22: Construction Truck Route on Twitter Share UPDATED 7/22: Construction Truck Route on Linkedin Email UPDATED 7/22: Construction Truck Route linkStaff added updated information to this article (below) on Monday, July 22nd and regularly updates a separate Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document to provide more in-depth information about the construction truck route and efforts to mitigate the impact of construction traffic. See the "Project Documents" section for this Construction & Truck Route FAQ document.
As a part of the renovation project, an access (haul) road will be constructed from the corner of Highland Park Drive and McIntosh Ave. for construction trucks to haul materials to and from the Bay Aquatic Park site, causing an increase in noise and truck traffic in the Highland Park neighborhood. Construction of the access road, or "haul road" is scheduled for the week of August 5th. Trucks will enter the neighborhood at Sheridan Blvd. and traverse west via Highland Park Drive. Exiting trucks will use McIntosh Ave., Kirkwall St. and Highland Park Drive and exit the neighborhood at Sheridan Blvd.
Construction Haul Route
Broomfield staff worked closely with the selected contractor to consider the viability of other options. Three different access routes were considered - from the north, the existing maintenance entrance on the west, and the west, along the south side of The Bay, north of Shaw Field. None were determined to be viable options for a variety of reasons, including truck access and maneuverability, construction phasing and logistics, traffic, and public safety, and the likelihood of damage to subsurface and above-ground utilities and pedestrian facilities.
Site Access Options Considered
Most of the truck hauling is anticipated over a 6-week period from August 16 through September 27, 2024. The heaviest 2-3 week period will see 32 trucks, or 64 total trips (in/out), each day.
August 5: Access road construction south of Brunner Reservoir. Approximately 4-8 days at up to 5 trucks per day anticipated, totalling approximately 25 total trucks.
August 14: Demolition of the pool, slides, etc. Approximately 12-15 days anticipated at up to 8 trucks per day, totalling approximately 100-120 total trucks.
September 4: Excavation and Export. Approximately 10-13 days at up to 32 trucks per day anticipated, totalling approximately 380 total trucks.
September 23: Material Import. Approximately 5 days at up to 25 trucks per day anticipated, totalling approximately 125 total trucks
October 2024 thru June 2025: Miscellaneous Trucking. Periodic trucking over nine months. Anticipating approximately 200 total trucks.
The goal is to complete more than three-quarters of the project’s truck hauling by the end of September 2024.
Again, for more in-depth information about the construction truck route and efforts to mitigate the impact of construction traffic please see the Construction & Truck Route FAQ document (also found in the "Projects Documents" section of this webpage).
